Soul's Embrace
by Scribe Diva Ink | 2026

I used to think I was doing something wrong. She never seemed happy with me. Had a permanent scowl in my direction. I felt like an inconvenience. She never protected me. I was her bait for predators. It seemed my safety didn't matter. Two times three, I told her. The other four didn't matter. My accounting only mattered when the welfare check came.

Everything and everyone else came first. I fought so hard for her love and attention. It seemed the more I tried, the more she hated me. The more I loved her, the more she used me. I didn't view it as that. I just thought she was being difficult. She's incapable. At least, that's what I believed. Until I saw her with my other brothers and sisters. She sacrificed her world for them. Gave them what I craved. While I sat on the curb wishing.

I was never resentful. I was happy for them. But sad for me. So I started loving them, hoping they would love me back and she would too. They never did. I just became her slave. Conditioned to be at her beck and call. Their protector when she didn't feel like it. In good faith. With a good heart. In true love and kindness. Generous to a fault. Never demanding anything in return until I was spent.

Empty. Void of energy to self-reflect on the reality of my situation. Depleted of the capability to do anything about it. I could only drop into a broken heart and shatter into a million reasons why I am here. Fragmented pieces. Clues ignored. Forced by the magnet of my soul to be put back together. Constantly monitored by vultures during the metamorphosis.

A butterfly was once a caterpillar. Wandering. Eating. Fighting. Surviving. Sometimes a victim. Most times reaching its safe space to liquefy and rebuild.

Vulnerable.
