Parenting by Instinct

Parenting by Instinct explores how animals and humans parent in parallel, examining the patterns, behaviors, and instincts that shape how we raise and respond to our young.

Through observation and comparison, this work considers what can be learned from the natural world—how instinct operates in animals, how it is expressed, suppressed, or reshaped in humans, and what emerges when the two are placed side by side. From the structure of a two-parent household reflected in the behavior of eagles to other forms of caregiving across species, these parallels reveal both alignment and divergence in how parenting is understood and practiced.

At its core, Parenting by Instinct examines the relationship between instinct, environment, and learned behavior—how we inherit ways of responding, how we adapt them, and how awareness can reshape them.
